Ruritan National is a civic service organization that aims to improve communities and build a better America through fellowship, goodwill, and community service. Ruritan clubs are located in small towns, rural areas, and urban areas, and are made up of a cross-section of the community, including farmers, business and professional people, and other concerned citizens. The first Ruritan Club was chartered in Holland, Virginia in 1928, and Ruritan has grown to nearly 1,000 clubs with over 23,000 members. Local clubs are autonomous from the national organization.
Ruritan is a civic service organization with the purpose of creating a better understanding between people and, through volunteer community service, making America's communi- ties a better place to live and work. The slogan of Ruritan is Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service.
The Bedington Ruritan was founded in 1958 and has continued to serve the community with the purpose outlined by Ruritan National.
